Ambulances carrying sick people are the second priority category under Article 134 of UU LLAJ, and Article 135 provides for police escort and/or lights and sirens. Priority applies to the patient transport itself, not to accompanying private cars.

Where the priority sits

Article 134 places ambulances carrying sick people second, after fire engines on duty. The priority attaches to the ambulance performing that task — not to family vehicles following behind, which remain ordinary road users.

This matters in a medical movement: the vehicle that must arrive is the one with the patient. Everything else is logistics arranged around it.

Hospital transfers and airport medical movements

For inter-hospital transfers and medical repatriation through the airport, the elements that decide whether a movement runs smoothly are known in advance:

• confirmed receiving facility and contact
• realistic timing against traffic
• a route agreed with the medical team
• clear arrangement for accompanying family

These can be prepared calmly before they are needed.
